In the third edition of the Merapoh Rainforest Trail (MRT 2024), the organizers aim to weicome participants from all over the world to experience the exploration of the 300 million-year-old natural treasures of Merapoh.
Merapoh is a small town located in the Lipis district of Pahang. It boasts 200 caves rich in historical value and unique features. Most of the cave names in the Merapoh area are derived from their structures and uniqueness.
The Dancing Ghost Cave (Gua Hantu Menari), which serves as the MRT route every year, is named because the light that enters the cave and is touched by the river water creates an image resembling dancing white specters.
Other caves, such as the Star Droppings Cave (Gua Tahi Bintang), are named based on the cave walls resembling clusters of star droppings falling from the sky. The Thousand Stories Cave (Gua Seribu Cerita), on the other hand, gets its name from the ancient paintings found within the cave.
The event is organized by the Persatuan Pencinta Alam Semulajadi Merapoh (PPASM), Mount Tahan Ventures, and Merapoh JPKK, with the aim of promoting Merapoh as an eco-tourism destination and providing economic benefits to the local community of Merapoh and the Lipis District.
The Merapoh Rainforest Trail 2024 will feature four categories: 100km, 50km, 25km, and the new 10km category introduced in the 2024 edition to provide an opportunity for newcomers to experience trail running in Merapoh.
This event has received full support from various government departments, including the Lipis District Land Office, Lipis District Council, Pahang State Forestry Department, Lipis District Police Headquarters, Lipis District Fire and Rescue Department, Lipis District Health Department, Lipis District Wildlife Department, and Lipis District Youth and Sports Department.
