Race Route

Rules

  1. Miri Marathon (hereinafter referred to as “MM”) is an annual long-distance running event held in the city of Miri, located in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia.
  2. Any Individual irrespective of nationality whose age meet minimum age on the race day for each of the following categories is eligible to participate (the participant):

2.1 Category of Miri Full Marathon of 42KM – 18 years and above.
2.2 Category of Miri Half Marathon of 21KM – 16 years and above.
2.3 Category of Miri 10KM Speed Run – 15 years and above.

Participants below the age of 18 years are required to obtain parental/guardian’s consent and are to complete the relevant indemnity declaration form as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon registration, failing which, the Organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any applicant under the age of 18. A participant is considered a veteran if his/her 40th birthday falls on or before the race day.

  1. By signing up for MM and providing any information, personal or otherwise, in order to participate in the event, and/or any activity involving the Organisers, participants have expressly given consent to Organisers, event sponsors (the sponsors), event photographer and travel partner:

3.1 to collect, analyse, collate, share, disclose to third parties, sell and/or otherwise use without any liability to the individual, any personal information relating to that individual as may in its sole discretion deem fit, including without any limitation for its programmes, planning, data- processing, and statistical or risk-analysis, research, fund-raising and/or any other purposes in furtherance of the functions. The Organisers and the sponsors declare by virtue of being the event owner or sponsor, they can use services of third parties.
3.2 to post the full race results on MM’s website after the race.
3.3 to use any photographs (including those of participants), motion pictures, recordings, or any other media records of MM, for any legitimate purpose including commercial advertising and distribution to Sponsors anywhere in the world.

  1. Registration for the race is only confirmed upon full payment made and upon issuance of a race identification number. Registration fee payable and courier charges for delivery of race pack for the event shall be subject to payment of tax imposed by government, if any.
  2. In consideration of the participant’s use of the MM website, the participant agrees to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about the participant contained in the registration form. If at any point of time, the Organisers have grounds to believe that such information is untrue, inaccurate, obsolete or incomplete, the Organisers may suspend or cancel the participant’s registration without any refund of registration fee.
  3. The Organisers reserve the right to cancel MM at any time without prior notice to the participant, in which case such cancellation will be informed to the participant before race day. If MM has to be cancelled due to occurrence of any unforeseeable, unavoidable or insurmountable incident that is beyond the control of the Organisers and which renders it impossible or unsafe to hold the event including but not limited to force majeure and/or public health concern, there shall be no refund of fees paid and the Organisers shall not be liable for any direct or indirect loss or inconvenience sustained and incurred or to be sustained and incurred as a result of or arising out of the cancellation.
  4. The Organisers reserve the right to amend MM race routes as they deem fit for the safety of the participants and/or to prevent any potential hazards in the running of the event, at any time without prior notice to the participants. For race route amendment, every effort will be made to inform the participants prior to the race day. The Organisers shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience caused due to such amendment.
  5. Whilst every reasonable precaution be taken by the Organisers to ensure the participants’ safety, participating runners run at their own risk. The Organisers shall not be held responsible or liable for any injury or death arising from training in preparation for the event and/or participating during the event. Participants are advised to go for medical check-up and/or in consultation with their medical practitioner prior to registration and/or at any time from the date of registration till race day to satisfy himself/herself of his/her mental and physical fitness in participating in the event.
  6. The form on the reverse side of the participants’ bib number must be completed in full and accurately. Participants must wear the assigned bib number on the front of the running vest/t-shirt. Participants who are not wearing a bib number and/or who failed to wear a bib in a visible manner will be taken off the course by officials/marshal of the event.
  7. Partial road closures on the Full Marathon Route will be completely lifted after 7 hours from commencement of the race (cut-off time). Cut-off times will be set at specific checkpoint(s) along the route (“Checkpoints’ cut-off times”) and will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of runners who are unable to complete the race within the 7 hours and to ensure that the roads can be reopened to the public in accordance with the requirement of authorities.

Partial road closures on the Half Marathon Route will be completely lifted after 4 hours from commencement of the race (cut-off time). Cut-off times will be set at specific checkpoint(s) along the route (“Checkpoints’ cut-off times”) and will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of runners who are unable to complete the race within the 4 hours and to ensure that the roads can be reopened to the public in accordance with the requirement of authorities.

If you do not reach the specific checkpoint(s) within the stipulated Checkpoints’ cut-off times, officials will disqualify you and ask you to board the bus or such other vehicles arranged by the Organisers to be ferried back to Padang Merdeka.

 

  1. A participant must retire from the race immediately, if instructed to do so by any member of marshal, medical personnel, Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak, Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (JPAM), Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat Negeri Sarawak, Malaysian Red Crescent Society, St John Ambulance Sarawak, Polis Diraja Malaysia, Rela, Pejabat Residen Miri, Persatuan Olahraga Sarawak (SAA), referee, Event Director and/or any official authorised by the Organisers, failing which his/her bib number will be recorded and he/she will be removed from the race, from this point onwards he/she will be continuing independently of the event and at his/her own risk.
  2. Pets, bicycles, tricycles, in-line skates, prams, push carts, shoes with built-in or attached rollers and any other wheel-run objects and any form of support vehicles are strictly not allowed on the race course other than official and medical vehicles unless with prior written permission from the Organisers.
  3. Once registration has been duly processed, there shall be no refund for whatsoever reason.
  4. The Organisers reserve the right to limit and/or refuse entry without giving any reason and/or notice.
  5. The Organisers shall not entertain nor be in any way responsible for any disputes, discrepancies or complaints arising from incomplete or inaccurate entry details in the registration form.
  6. The Organisers reserve the right to cancel, vary and/or add any race category without giving prior notice.
  7. Unless otherwise expressly agreed by the Organisers on such condition(s) as the Organisers in its absolute discretion deems fit, participants are strictly not allowed to transfer their race entries to another party or change race categories after their registrations are confirmed.
  8. A participant who commences to run before the starting time of his/her registered race will be disqualified.
  9. Participants who do not start within 15 minutes from their respective flag off will be disqualified and for safety reasons may not be allowed to start.
  10. The starting times for each category are as follows:

20.1 Miri Full Marathon of 42KM: 1:00 am
20.2 Miri Half Marathon of 21KM: 4:00 am
20.3 Miri 10KM Speed Run: 5:30 am

  1. The cut off times for each category which shall be strictly enforced are as follows:

21.1 Miri Full Marathon of 42KM – 7 hours
21.2 Miri Half Marathon of 21KM – 4 hours
21.3 Miri 10KM Speed Run – 2 hours 30 minutes

  1. The Race Pack collection will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday immediately prior to the race day at a designated place to be decided by the Organisers.
  2. Prizes for winners are as stated in the prize list on the MM official website. They are subject to be changed, restructured or cancelled at any time by the Organisers without giving any reason and prior notice.

The “Gun Time” shall be considered to determine the winners for all categories.

  1. General Rules for categories (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10KM Run and 6KM Run):

24.1 The Prize money for National Category (Men and Women) of Full Marathon are open to the top 15 Malaysian male citizen and top 15 Malaysian female citizen who participated in Full Marathon – both Open and Veteran categories and only in such circumstances, any qualified winning participant is entitled to win prize of more than one category;
24.2 Prize winners must report to the designated area or prize giving counter. In the event potential winner fails to register within 15 minutes after crossing finishing line, the Organisers has sole and absolute discretion to forfeit the winning prize;
24.3 All prize-winning participants are required to produce their supporting documents on verification of identity in order to collect prize money. Beside passport (foreigner) or identity card (Malaysian), other supporting documents including but not limited to driving licence, flight itinerary, hotel reservation, bio data, etc must be provided upon request;
24.4 The Organisers shall have the absolute, complete and discretionary rights to conduct doping test on winners in all categories at any time before payment of prizes are released in which event the payment of prizes shall be kept in abeyance pending and subject to the full and final result(s) of the doping test;
24.5 For prize winners or potential prize winners, disputes or appeals must be made on-site in person in a written format with an appeal fee of RM5.00 within 30 minutes of the published results on the results notice board on-site failing which the Organisers reserve the rights not to entertain any dispute or appeal thereafter;

The Organisers shall not entertain any dispute or appeal regarding the results after the prize presentation ceremony or the prize giving;

24.6 Prizes must be taken in the forms as presented by the Organisers. They are not transferable and are subjected to the Rules and Regulations or decisions as determined by the Organisers;

All prizes not claimed within 3 days from the race day shall be forfeited and the Organisers shall have the absolute, complete and discretionary rights to redistribute or dispose of them accordingly as they deem fit;
24.7 For all other participants, disputes and appeals regarding the results must be submitted in writing including electronic mail within 3 days after race day (race day is counted as 1 day). The Organisers reserve the rights not to entertain any dispute or appeal after the end of 3 days including race day;
24.8 Only the participants who have physically participated and successfully completed the event within respective category’s cut-off time will be awarded a finisher’s medal upon presentation of their bib number and timing result slip printed by official timing system-MyLap (where applicable) to the respective officials for verification. The participant who did not start, finish or complete the event within respective category’s cut-off time shall not be entitled to a finisher’s medal;
24.9 Only the participants who have physically participated and successfully completed the Full Marathon or Half Marathon within respective category’s cut-off time will be awarded an exclusive Finisher T-Shirt upon presentation of their bib number and timing result slip printed by official timing system-MyLap (where applicable) to the respective officials for verification. Sizes of Finisher T-Shirt are subject to availability on a first come first serve basis. The participant who did not start, finish or complete the Full Marathon or Half Marathon within respective category’s cut-off time shall not be entitled to an exclusive Finisher T-Shirt;
24.10 All finisher medals and finisher T-shirts (for Full Marathon 42KM and Half Marathon 21KM only) must be collected immediately after crossing the finish line subject to verification of bib number and timing result slip (where applicable) by the respective officials and no request will be entertained thereafter; and
24.11 All finishers who have successfully completed the event within each category’s cut-off time will receive a certificate of participation which can be downloaded online within two weeks after the event.
24.12 Unless and until the participants have successfully completed the event within respective category’s cut-off time, the participants shall not be entitled to finisher’s medal, finisher T-shirt (for Full Marathon 42KM and Half Marathon 21KM only) and certificate of participation in which event the Organisers reserve the rights not to entertain any request for finisher’s medal, finisher T-shirt (for Full Marathon 42KM and Half Marathon 21KM only) and certificate of participation.
24.13 Subject to the rules and regulations stated herein, the payment of registration fee does not automatically entitle the participants to finisher’s medal, finisher T-shirt (for Full Marathon 42KM and Half Marathon 21KM only) and certificate of participation.
24.14 The Organisers shall not be responsible for any loss and/or damage to the belongings and items deposited at the Drop Zone counter provided for the Participants. Participants are advised to leave valuables at home and to bring as little as possible with them as space may be tight on the race day. Bags are checked in at owner’s risk. The Organisers also reserves the rights to check any item or bag deposited.

  1. The timing chip is a single-use, disposable item. Proper placement of the timing chip is extremely important and the timing chips have a 99% average read success during most races. And while every care is taken to ensure that the timing chip is of working order when given to the participant, the Organizer shall not be held liable in the small chance when a timing chip does not have a successful read after the race. No refund or consolation will be given to the affected participant(s).
  2. The Organisers reserve the right to unilaterally add on, modify or substitute any of the above rules and regulations of MM at any time as they deem fit without prior notice. If there is ambiguity in any of the provisions, the Organisers shall be the sole authority which has the absolute, full, final and complete power to interpret it as they deem fit.

By participating in the event, I have read and understood the rules & regulations and I agree to participate on the understanding that I must adhere to ALL the rules and regulations stipulated, other rules, announcements and timelines as it varies from time to time. I consent to receiving any medical treatment which medical personnel think necessary and appropriate during the event.

WAIVER CLAUSE: In consideration of the acceptance of my entry, I, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors and assigns, do hereby unconditionally and irrevocably waive and release the organisers, the event sponsors and partners as well as all persons, servants, contractors, agents, service providers, volunteers and agencies connected with it from all complains, demands, claims, liabilities, proceedings, suits, losses and/or damages of any kind whatsoever due to or relating to or arising directly or indirectly out of my participation in the event, including without limitation, personal injury and/or death.
