Malaysia Virtual Towerrunning Expedition or MVTE is the first ever Virtual Towerrunning Series in Malaysia organized by Malaysia Towerrunning Association, powered by Domino’s Pizza Malaysia and sponsored by a few other sponsors, namely: Biofreeze Malaysia, UM4S, Beet It Sport Malaysia, Bauerfeind Malaysia, and Blackroll Malaysia.
There are many virtual runs around the globe and even virtual towerrunning events as well, but the special about our MVTE is that it is a series of 10 Challenges (ONE Challenge every TWO Weeks) virtually running up the Top10 Tallest Buildings / Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is a challenge of achieving the height in meters instead of number of steps from all the Top 10 skyscrapers. By pointing out the height of the skyscrapers in meters, it allows all of us to visualize the skyline and has a much clearer visual of it in terms of its height and structure as compared to other famous buildings.
The reason we set a “One Challenge Every Two Weeks” is to allow the participants to do it on a regular basis rather than one shot completing it (they can if they want to) as we allow multiple sessions of climbs to complete the height required by the challenge. Therefore, it is a much easier approach for participants (who are new to this sport) to complete the challenge and build a habit of walking up stairs daily. They can walk up the stairs at anywhere, any time and they just have to record the elevation gained of every sessions, add it up to achieve the height of challenge within the challenge period.
Other than just running up virtually, we have come out with an idea to make it a team challenge for this MVTE. A team is made up of Five Participants, with a team name, having the same goal (achieve the required height of each challenge), with peer pressure and motivate each other to complete it as an African Proverb once said: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
We knew that there must be a reason for you to start a new habit like walking up the stairs daily, therefore we come out with a customized e-bib (name on bib, team name and customized quote) for you and when you share it on social media, it is able to inspire not just you but your friends on the social media to start taking part on this expedition. Sample quotes like: “Every journey begins with a single step”, “It’s hard, but it’s not impossible”, “Our actions build the staircase to future” and “Once you believe in yourself, you can do it”.
At the same time, we do provide a leaderboard for Team and Individual based on the completion time of each respective challenge. We knew that participants like to see where they rank among their age group, overall in the same gender, overall individual ranking and overall team ranking even though we know that this ranking is not 100% reflect to the performance of the participant as there are too many variables when comes to virtual event, but at least you get to know how the average standard is and how far away from you compared with an average person.
Participants who take part on MVTE can also qualify to win themselves lucky draw prizes once they complete a minimum of 3 out of 10 challenges according to our lucky draw tier system. We have come out with a total of 6 Tiers lucky draw mechanism to encourage the participants to progress themselves from not just completing the minimum of 3 but completing all the challenges to qualify and stand a much higher chance to win lucky draw prizes together with their team.
We are glad to have Domino’s Pizza Malaysia onboard to be our Diamond Sponsor and sponsors like Biofreeze Malaysia, Beet It Sport Malaysia, Blackroll Malaysia, Bauerfeind Malaysia and UM4S to be our Gold Sponsor on sponsoring the lucky draw prizes. We welcome any other sponsors who are interested on supporting our very first MVTE 2020 to put their brand on it and to believe that this is an initiative on building a healthy nation.
Thank You.
