Race Course Detail

The Ranau Ultra Marathon is a challenging road ultra-marathon of under 50 kilometers with some extreme uphill sections and downhill sections. You start the race above the village of Bundu Tuhan and make your way from the start line down into the valley below Bundu Tuhan and then make a long climb back up to the opposite ridge line before another descent down into the Mohimboyan valley. The village route takes runners past native villages before a gradual ascent to a ridge line that separates the race course from the town of Kundasang. Runners do not enter Kundasang but proceed in an easterly direction towards the town of Ranau, passing more villages and rolling hills before crossing the main highway linking Kota Kinabalu, on the West Coast of Sabah with Sandakan on the East Coast.

Ultra distance runners will have access to a drop bag at the 30km check point and an opportunity not only replenish their essentials but also to change their shoes from road running shoes to trail running shoes for the next section of the race that requires trail running shoes.
