Sandakan Marathon is an annual road race held each July in the center of Sandakan city, which is also known as (the nature city) the course runs from the city towards sim-sim (famous for seafood) and continues along Sulu Sea, Bandar Letat, Nasalim, to the iconic Roundabout Eagles.
 
Sandakan marathon 1st edition was held on July 7, 2019, with only 1310 participants from across the globe, the first race was won by local athletes Safree Sabdin in the men’s open category, and Dedriana David won the women's open category. Moma water was the only local business sponsor. The Sandakan Marathon aimed to promote a healthy community.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The minimum age to participate in the distance of 42km is 18 years old and above.
    The minimum age for the 21km is 16 years old and above.
    The minimum age for the 10km is 14 years old and above.
    The minimum age for the 5km is 10 years old and above.
    In both cases, the age of the person on the race day will be considered.
  1. Running a full marathon requires a high level of physical fitness. To enrol in the Sandakan Marathon 2.0 2023, the runner accepts and understands that he/she must have the physical fitness suitable for a test of this kind, by the day of the race.
  2. The participants take part in the event voluntarily, assuming all of the responsibility for his /her activities, actions, belongings, health, and physical and psychological integrity. He or she explicitly renounces all responsibility, and thus waives the ability to make any claim against the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and/or representatives thereof, about any damages, including, but not limited to, the following: physical pain, morals, theft, misplacements/lost items, or any other incident he or she could suffer personally or have to occur to a third-party member, his/her friends, or belongings before, during, or after the event.
  3. The organization reserves the right to disqualify any runner that does not use his/her bib number during the race.
  4. Only the runners who will complete the race will receive a finisher medal for having reached the finish line and completing the Sandakan Marathon 2.0 2023.
  5. The use of roller-blades and others forms of wheeled progression is not permitted.
  6. The event organizer reserves the right to suspend or cancel the race, change the date or race schedule, or modify the route and aid stations in cases of force majeure, including, but not limited to, the following: exceptional climate conditions, natural disasters, accidents, or for security reasons or justified orders from a competent authority. In those cases, no refund will be given to the participants.
  7. All runners must follow the instructions given to them by the event organizers or their representatives on the course at all times. Refusal to follow any such instructions may results in a penalty or even disqualification.
  8. All runners should conduct themselves in a sporting manner, showing respect to other runners and the event organizers. Failure to do so may results in a penalty or even disqualification.
  9. There will be both stationary and mobile medical along the race route. If any member of those teams determines that a runner must not continue, the competitor must obey his/her command and/or instructions. If a runner is not able to complete the race, he/she must inform any member of the organization and wait at the nearest aid station, from where he/she will be transferred to the finish line.
  10. The organizer of the event reserve the right to make changes or additions to general regulations at any time before the start of the race.
